Academic Library of ScienceHeir to Toulouse Faculty of Medicine from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and later to the Faculty of Science founded in 1810, as part of the Université de Toulouse, Paul Sabatier University was established under its present name and organisation in 1969. It offers a multidisciplinary training in the sciences, health, engineering and sports.
Paul Sabatier University has developed one of the most important clusters of scientific research in France and supplies over 27000 students with a wide range of services throughout a vast campus.

Directly attached to Service Commun de la Documentation (SCD), which federates all the libraries on the campus, the Academic Library of Science is one of Paul Sabatier University key projects.
Besides its traditional missions in the field of documentation and users' services, the Library currently participates in the training of undergraduate students so as to facilitate their integration into University.

Its contemporary architecture (agency : Espagno Milani) conveys an innovative concept in French universities libraries.
Resolutely welcoming for its users, the new library offers in the science fields taught at Paul Sabatier rich collections, both paper and online, with a wide range of e-resources and bibliographic databases accessible through computers and wifi. Support for the use of these resources is granted both individually and through collective training sessions.
Beyond, to extend to culture the scope of its activities, the library proposes works of fiction, comics, exhibitions and writer's workshops. The library building thus enables to combine within its walls studying, recreation and cultural events.

Since completion of the first phase of the work in November 2008, the opening with 3000 m2 and 660 seats touched off an increase in users' attendance which shows that the conceptual choices were well-targeted. After completion of the second phase in the summer of 2009, the library will offer on 4100 m2 870 seats, many working group rooms, services to handicapped people and a language lab.
